- ➤ Tickets are now on sale for Heroes Who Cook on Nov. 2 at the St. Tammany Parish Justice Center Parking Garage in downtown Covington—teams from 16 local restaurants paired with community leaders will compete to raise funds for the Children's Advocacy Center-Hope House that helps child abuse victims. The Times-Picayune
- ➤ STOPS board member Becky Roniger said the One Step At A Time 5K walk will take place on Sept. 20 at 9 a.m. at Abita Springs Trailhead to raise funds for suicide prevention programs — the event will let individuals and teams join to support those coping with loss. The Times-Picayune
- ➤ Jeff Mayo and Stephen Michell teamed up to support first responder families at the fourth annual Never Forget 5K Run/Walk starting Saturday, Sept. 13 at the St. Tammany Trailhead—this event honors fallen responders while providing funds to help their families. Mayo, a retired deputy whose brother died in 2007, has brought his years of experience to boost the event's community impact. The Times-Picayune

- ➤ A Slidell woman was arrested after she struck a co-worker with her SUV then went to work as if nothing happened—police say the case is under investigation. FOX 8
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Pelican Park’s new Naturalist and Environmental Education Programs coordinator, Alex Landry, started the Nature Club in April to offer hikes, workshops and stargazing events for local residents — many events are free and held in local parks. The club will host the Birdathon on Sept. 13, Moonlight Paddle on Nov. 1 and an LSU Raptor Rehab class on Dec. 13 to help people enjoy the outdoors. The Times-Picayune
