ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Louisiana had 753 road deaths last year, the fewest in five years, as more people wore seatbelts and non-seatbelt deaths dropped from 302 to 261 while police made 4% more DWI arrests, according to Mark Lambert of the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission.  Louisiana Radio Network

  • Today, the City of Slidell cut the ribbon on Amazon’s new delivery station near Fremaux Town Center—this facility created more than 200 full-time and part-time jobs and will offer 100 delivery driver roles.  WDSU
  • On September 8, Amazon opened its first same-day delivery site in Jefferson Parish using advanced robotics for faster processing—on September 10, the company launched a new facility in Slidell that handled package sorting for the Northshore and nearby areas.  FOX 8

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office Lt. Carli Messina has released a new road map that shows busy parish roads with humorous commentary (including notes on U.S. 190 and the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway). The map has gained strong social media attention after thousands of likes and many comments, highlighting local drivers' shared frustrations with heavy traffic.  The Times-Picayune
  • The Slidell City Council approved issuing $27.6M in bonds to help cover a potential purchase of North Shore Square Mall — the sale is not final as state approval and further talks with the seller are still pending. New sales and hotel occupancy taxes in the Northshore Square Economic Development District will help fund the revenue, and some residents voiced concerns about rising tax rates.  The Times-Picayune

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • The Humane Society of Louisiana launches its first Be Kind to Animals 30-Day Challenge today—encouraging locals to visit shelters, walk dogs, socialize cats or donate while sharing videos on social media.
