ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Longtime Times-Picayune journalist Mark Schleifstein will receive a prestigious lifetime achievement award from the Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana for his work highlighting the state’s coastal challenges—he retired in 2024 and will be honored on November 13 at SoLou restaurant in Baton Rouge.  The Times-Picayune

  • An Air Quality Alert is in effect today for the Greater New Orleans area—covering the I-12 corridor from Slidell to Covington—due to high ozone levels that are unhealthy for people with lung issues.  WDSU

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Households with registered voters will soon receive a letter from the Secretary of State explaining that closed party primaries will be used for federal and state offices including U.S. Senate, U.S. House, Louisiana Supreme Court, PSC, and BESE starting in 2026 — only registered party members may vote in that party's primary. The educational mailpiece is the start of a statewide campaign urging voters to keep their registrations updated and directing them to an official online resource for additional details.  Louisiana Radio Network
  • Residents filled the room at today's Slidell mayoral debate as they listened to remarks from Mayor Bill Borchert and Police Chief Randy Fandal—each candidate outlining their priorities for the city's future.  WWL-TV

  • The Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame has named its 2026 induction class with former NFL star Joe Horn, 14-year NFL veteran Todd McClure, and Monroe native Pat Williams as suitors.
