- ➤ Northshore Humane Society's Golden Paws program pairs shelter dogs with seniors in Covington—bringing joy and companionship to local elderly residents. The program aims to ease isolation and improve daily life for those participating. WWL-TV
- ➤ Louisiana journalism has led to important changes in child welfare and property insurance and now a campaign has launched to raise $100K in 100 Days for the Journalism Fund—supporting reporting that holds leaders accountable. - ➤ NOLA Zydeco Fest celebrated its five-year milestone on Sept. 21 at Palmettos on the Bayou in Slidell with live music from Geno Delafose and French Rockin’ Boogie and a dance led by MoeJoe the Instructor — guests also enjoyed food while supporting the New Orleans Zydeco Foundation. A $30 donation covered entry, a cocktail and a bowl of jambalaya to help fund the foundation's mission to preserve Louisiana Creole culture. WDSU

- ➤ Two well-known Slidell officials, Mayor Bill Borchert and Police Chief Randy Fandal, are running in a heated race for mayor with voters set to decide on Oct. 11 as early voting begins Sept. 27.
