A tropical wave midway between the Lesser Antilles and Cabo Verde Islands is now producing increasing showers and thunderstorms, and conditions becoming favorable today may lead to a tropical depression by mid-to-late week— though southeast Louisiana is not expected to feel any impacts. Another wave 400 miles east of the Leeward Islands is causing disorganized storms with low chances for immediate development but higher chances later this week.

Fall begins this afternoon and the region stays dry after no measurable rain in September.

LSU health climatologist Barry Keim said parts of the Northshore are in moderate drought—there is a 60% chance for showers on Thursday.
