ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ A tropical wave midway between the Lesser Antilles and Cabo Verde Islands is now producing increasing showers and thunderstorms, and conditions becoming favorable today may lead to a tropical depression by mid-to-late week— though southeast Louisiana is not expected to feel any impacts. Another wave 400 miles east of the Leeward Islands is causing disorganized storms with low chances for immediate development but higher chances later this week. WDSU
- ➤ Fall begins this afternoon and the region stays dry after no measurable rain in September. LSU health climatologist Barry Keim said parts of the Northshore are in moderate drought—there is a 60% chance for showers on Thursday. WWL-TV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Incumbent Bill Borchert and police chief Randy Fandal are running in the Slidell mayoral race—each candidate asserting plans to improve city services and public safety as the election approaches. FOX 8
- ➤ The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is asking residents to report any sighting of the rare Eastern Spotted Skunk, which has not been seen in the state for over 30 years. Officials say submissions like roadkill, game camera footage, or accidental trap catches—showing its unique markings—will help protect the species. WGNO
