BUSINESS NEWS

  • 7Brew will open its first Slidell drive-thru at 1648 Gause Blvd in December—joining 15 other Louisiana locations operated by the fast-growing chain. The Arkansas-based company is known for its unique coffee flavors and appeal among local customers.  The Times-Picayune

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Louisiana is trying to boost its education attainment rate from 52.5% to 60% by 2030—said the Board of Regents, which also reported a record 80,000 graduates earning credentials this year. The rise in credentials is expected to help people earn more in the workforce.  WWL-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Early voting for the Oct. 11 election starts today — polls are open daily from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. through Oct. 4 except Sunday, Sept. 28. Voters can use this period to cast their ballots ahead of Election Day.  The Times-Picayune
  • Today, early voting starts in New Orleans and nearly half of Louisiana including Slidell, where voters will decide on a mayor's race + local ballot issues; voting will close Sunday and resume Monday until October 4 with Election Day on October 11.  WWL-TV
  • Early voting begins today in New Orleans area municipal races where voters will cast ballots for city and parish posts. In Slidell, locals will choose between former Council member Bill Borchert and Police Chief Randy Fandal to finish Mayor Greg Cromer's term until June 2026—polls are open daily from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. until Oct. 4 and a parcel fee for St. Tammany Fire District No. 1 is on the ballot.  The Times-Picayune

HEALTH NEWS

  • NAMI Southeast Louisiana is hosting a family-friendly mental health walk at Audubon Park on Oct. 4 — check-in begins at 9 a.m. with the walk starting at 10 a.m.; participants can join for free and donate to support mental health services in nine parishes.  WDSU

SPORTS NEWS

  • Northshore's Panthers earned their first win of the season with a 17-10 victory over Covington on Sept. 26—senior Ramon Williams ran for 179 yards while coach Bobby Sanders said the strong offense and defense set up a promising game against Mandeville on Oct 2.  The Times-Picayune
  • The Slidell Tigers beat the Mandeville Skippers 28-14 in their rivalry game—Ricky Williams led key touchdown drives to secure the win.  WWL-TV
  • St. Paul’s celebrated its homecoming on September 26th when senior Cody Corales gained 271 yards and scored three touchdowns to help the Wolves beat Kennedy 28—21. The team built an early lead and held off a late comeback with key stops by the defense.  The Times-Picayune
