COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office will host free National Night Out events on October 7 from 5 to 8 p.m.—at its 1st District in Slidell, 3rd District in Covington, and 4th District in Bush, with the 2nd District event at the Mandeville Trailhead—to let families enjoy bounce houses, food, local performances and a chance to meet law enforcement. Sheriff Randy Smith said he looks forward to welcoming residents and offering opportunities to learn about crime prevention and share ideas during the events. AN17
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Sheriff Randy Smith announced that the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office received the Certificate of Achievement for its Annual Comprehensive Financial Report for the fiscal year ended June 30—in recognition of the finance department’s commitment to transparency and full disclosure. Controller Cynthia Bankston and her team worked hard to meet the award’s high standards. AN17
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ The Saints battled the Bills on Sunday at Highmark Stadium but fell 31—19 as MVP Josh Allen threw two touchdown passes and ran for another, while James Cook rushed for 117 yards. The Saints rushed for 189 yards and will host the Giants next Sunday. WWL-TV
- ➤ Pray SONIC announced its first NIL partnership with Special Olympics athlete Steven Bloom—who grew up in Louisiana—and awarded him free SONIC for a year while he serves as the brand ambassador at local competitions and events. AN17
