- ➤ The St. Tammany Parish Fair is underway in Covington—this historic event offers a mini farm, livestock shows, a rodeo, vendors, and food as a long-time community tradition. The fair is held at 1304 N. Columbia Street with the drive-in entrance on N. Magee Street, provides $25,000 in cash prizes and scholarships, and runs from Wednesday through Sunday. WGNO

- ➤ St. Tammany offers a busy fall season with live music, theater and community events lined up in Slidell, Mandeville and Covington. Key events include Mikayla Braun’s acoustic concert in Slidell on Oct.14 from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.—a Johnny Cash tribute in Mandeville on Oct.3 and a free Bayou Jam in Slidell on Oct.5. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ David Courcelle, a Metairie-based lawyer and former Jefferson Parish attorney, had his nomination forwarded by the Senate Judiciary Committee to serve as U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Louisiana—covering 13 parishes. The nominee, a graduate of De La Salle High School and the University of New Orleans, is awaiting full Senate confirmation. The Times-Picayune
- ➤ A Senate committee advanced David Courcelle's nomination to become the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Louisiana—he is set to face a full Senate vote in the coming weeks. The former criminal defense lawyer served as a city attorney in Harahan and a parish attorney in Jefferson Parish while handling cases on drugs, guns and corruption. WDSU
- ➤ Gov. Landry, state officials and the EPA will update progress on the cleanup after the Smitty's Supply explosion — over 7M gallons have been collected, but concerns remain about ongoing risks. WWL-TV
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Federal health officials warned Slidell residents not to eat certain Trader Joe's and Walmart heat-and-eat pasta meals because tests found listeria linked to a deadly outbreak—Walmart has removed these items from shelves. The USDA alert lists best-by dates from Sept. 20, Sept. 24, Sept. 27, and Oct. 1—additional affected products may be identified. The Times-Picayune
