- ➤ Musicians in the Washboard Chaz Blues Trio will perform at the Dew Drop Jazz and Social Hall in Old Mandeville on Oct. 11. The group is led by Washboard Chaz Leary—who has played in clubs for years—and will deliver soul-stirring blues that recall the classic sounds of New Orleans. The Times-Picayune
- ➤ Ron Usner, a nearly 80-year-old local who grew up in Slidell, has been named the new curator of the Slidell Museum—taking over from John Fitzmorris. He will manage exhibits and guide visitors while sharing the town’s rich history. The Times-Picayune

- ➤ The St. Tammany Parish Council will vote Nov. 6 on an ordinance that requires inspections of residential septic systems every three years to address untreated sewage leaks. The updated legislation makes inspections free using funds from Mosquito Abatement and limits the rule to areas below the urban growth boundary—reducing costs for many homeowners. The Times-Picayune
- ➤ Today, the U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals is set to hear arguments on a Louisiana law requiring the Ten Commandments to be posted in classrooms. Yesterday, the full court nullified a June ruling that declared the law unconstitutional—Attorney General Liz Murrill and Gov. Jeff Landry expressed support—and no date for the hearing has been set. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ MD Anderson Cancer Center partnered with Slidell Memorial Hospital and Ochsner Health on Monday to bring its treatment protocols and clinical trials to the local cancer center—making it the eighth in Louisiana linked to the network. The hospital also received a $51.5 million bond for upgrades that will boost diagnostic and imaging services. The Times-Picayune

- ➤ On Sunday, the New Orleans Saints won their first game by beating the New York Giants 26—14; Spencer Rattler threw for 212 yards and coach Kellen Moore said the win helped the team move forward while the defense forced turnovers to end a four-game winless streak. Louisiana Radio Network
- ➤ The Saints beat the Giants 26 to 14 with key plays from Kellen Moore—he set up important passes that helped the team win. The win came after strong defensive changes and few turnovers, although the special teams struggled. WWL-TV
- ➤ LSU coach Brian Kelly spoke Monday after new evidence from Kyren Lacy's attorney cleared him of responsibility for a deadly crash—data showed Lacy was more than 70 yards behind at impact and his attorney confirmed he passed four cars—and he said the investigation will continue with patience.
