SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ In St. Tammany Parish, district play began on Oct. 10 as teams from Mandeville, St. Paul's, Lakeshore, Pearl River, Northshore and Slidell earned wins during Week 6 of the LHSAA football season. In Slidell, the Tigers beat Fontainebleau 17-7 with key plays by Mike Thompson and Ja'Kwan Jones (who surpassed 1,000 rushing yards) during their Homecoming win. The Times-Picayune
- ➤ Northshore’s junior quarterback JJ Gonzales scored on a 9-yard touchdown run with 17 seconds left to give the Panthers a 31-28 District 7-5A win at Salmen on Oct. 10—he finished with 115 rushing yards and two TDs. The team rallied with 375 total yards and key plays from running back Ramon Williams—while several Salmen penalties helped set up the final drive. The Times-Picayune
- ➤ At the Pelican High School Invitational on Oct. 9th at PAC, the girls team of St. Scholastica won the title with 188.50 points as captain Emma Mae Smith won the 100-yard freestyle and 100 backstroke despite not having her best meet, while the boys team at St. Paul’s claimed first with 163 points. Several swimmers set personal records and five new state qualifiers joined the roster — setting the stage for a focused push at the state meet in late November. The Times-Picayune
