- ➤ Local community groups in Slidell are helping workers affected by the government shutdown. They plan to provide essential resources—such as food and job assistance—to help those facing financial challenges. FOX 8
- ➤ Amite veteran George Van Zandt, 101 years old, was named grand marshal of the inaugural Veteran’s parade set for Nov. 1 in Ponchatoula. The parade will start at 9:30 a.m. at the Lions Club—travel through downtown and end at Memorial Park with a post-parade party and vintage car show. AN17
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Education leaders from across the state will study and recommend ways for schools to use AI responsibly as Gov. Landry signed an executive order banning public schools from using AI programs from certain countries—such as China. The group of nearly 30 experts, led by Louisiana Tech president Jim Henderson, will work over the next few months and present their policy suggestions at the state board meeting on March 10. - ➤ Homeowner Ryan Burdick in Gert Town near Norwood Thompson Park says a broken terracotta pipe has caused a foul sewage spill and persistent odor over the past four months, raising health concerns as raw waste spills into his yard and onto the street. He explained his plumber could not fix it because it is city property—city crews repaired the public sewer line in early October and will return to restore the sidewalk in about 31 days. WDSU

- ➤ LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier improved his performance in the Tigers’ 20-10 win over South Carolina—he said his offensive line created better running lanes after his ab injury—and is building confidence for the upcoming road game at Vanderbilt.
