EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Louisiana's state education board announced that starting in the 2026-27 school year high school sophomores will take four standardized tests instead of six. The new plan will combine the two English and two math tests into one each (with pass requirements in English, math and either biology or civics) to strengthen the value of a Louisiana diploma. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Franco's and Cross Gates have formed a strategic partnership that sees Cross Gates managing both health clubs while Franco's keeps its established name—future renovations will upgrade Franco's facilities in Mandeville and New Orleans—and membership terms will remain unchanged. The Times-Picayune
- ➤ Two men in long-term recovery will open NOLA Detox, Slidell's first in-patient treatment center—designed to offer detox and treatment services to address the growing opioid crisis. The facility will help combat rising overdose rates in the region. WWL-TV
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Northlake Christian won 14-0 over Pope John Paul II on October 16 at Lester Latino Field as the team shifted momentum with key plays. Senior Charlie Gilmore made two crucial interceptions—one on the final play—that helped secure the shutout win. The Times-Picayune
- ➤ Salmen's Spartans bounced back on Oct 17 with a 32-7 win at the Dawg Pound after a tough loss last week—Terrance Mitchell gained 119 yards and a touchdown while the defense held Fontainebleau to 139 total yards. The Times-Picayune
- ➤ Lakeshore's defense recorded four sacks, 12 tackles for loss and two fumble recoveries to help secure a 42 to 6 win over Pearl River on Oct. 17 (District 7-4A matchup). Junior QB Brody Loudermilk and senior RB Shawn Brown each scored three touchdowns as the Titans amassed 352 total yards (including 210 on the ground) in a dominating performance. The Times-Picayune
