- ➤ A beloved Northshore pizzeria in Old Mandeville was closed indefinitely after an overnight fire destroyed its kitchen — the incident occurred on the day the restaurant celebrated its 30th anniversary. McClain’s Pizzeria has asked for community help through its crowdsourcing page to rebuild and assess the damage — restoration may take time. WDSU
- ➤ The New Leash on Life program pairs shelter dogs and inmates at LCIW in St. Gabriel for six weeks to teach essential training skills needed for adoption—18 dogs have graduated and five more will join soon. The initiative is a partnership with LASPCA and The Dog School and aims to give both pets and inmates a fresh start. WDSU
- ➤ United Way of Southeast Louisiana launched a regional food drive Tuesday amid a federal government shutdown to support local food pantries as families lost income and SNAP benefits—donations of non-perishable food and diapers will be accepted until November 25 with staff and volunteers delivering items to regional food banks. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Dr. Lucio Miele of the LCMC Cancer Center said new research shows that some cancer patients live longer when they receive an mRNA COVID vaccine with immune checkpoint inhibitors—studies in mice and at other centers found similar results, and more research will determine if this can improve cancer treatments in the future. - ➤ The defending state champion Slidell volleyball team swept Fontainebleau 25-21, 25-20, 25-16 on Oct. 28 to lock up the District 6-I crown — the team, led by its 12 seniors, now aims to defend its title with focused effort. The Times-Picayune
- ➤ Former LSU head coach Ed Orgeron appeared on ESPN’s Unsportsmanlike on Wednesday to discuss the LSU head coach vacancy—he said the new coach must embrace Louisiana and critiqued Brian Kelly for not doing so.
