- ➤ A study by Leaders for a Better Louisiana shows the Early Childhood Education Fund will run out of money by 2030 if the state does not add more revenue. Better Louisiana Chief Policy Officer Barry Erwin warned the fund’s shortage may cause local communities to stop matching raised funds — reducing the number of children served. - ➤ Gov. Jeff Landry said Louisiana will soon announce plans to help food banks as SNAP funding is expected to end on Nov. 1—putting extra pressure on charities already struggling to meet rising demand. FOX 8
- ➤ Farm Service Agency offices that provide low-interest loans and disaster relief have reopened in Louisiana amid the ongoing federal shutdown, with 2,100 centers now staffed five days a week. U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins met with Gov. Jeff Landry and Agriculture Commissioner Mike Strain last week — although new conservation program sign-ups remain paused. - ➤ Louisiana transportation officials urge drivers to buckle up and put down their phones to help reduce crashes. The Buckle Up, Phone Down campaign reported that distracted driving caused 25% of fatal crashes last year—officials said. WGNO
- ➤ The Office of State Fire Marshal is urging residents to follow safe home heating practices—such as keeping space heaters 3 to 5 feet away from flammable items and plugging them directly into wall outlets—as Louisiana braces for its strongest fall cold front. The agency also offers a free smoke alarm installation program to help protect homes. AN17
- ➤ The federal shutdown is causing funding issues for Louisiana Head Start programs and many centers will run out of money Saturday, which will affect early learning, health checks, and childcare for about 1,344 children. Local officials and grantees have emergency plans in place, but a prolonged shutdown will make it hard to keep services running—prompting urgent calls for the government to restore funds.
