ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A large stable fire in Slidell killed nine horses—nearly 30 others were rescued as investigators search for the cause while owners mourn the tragic loss.  WWL-TV

ECONOMY NEWS

  • A recent report by the Annie E. Casey Foundation showed that one in five children in Louisiana lives in poverty and the rate could jump to one in three if SNAP benefits are cut due to the federal shutdown—raising concerns as families face tougher economic challenges. State officials have diverted rainy day funds to support food aid for children and at-risk groups, and efforts will continue as the shutdown persists.  The Times-Picayune

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The State Fire Marshal’s Office reminded residents that when they changed their clocks last Sunday, November 2, they should also replace batteries in smoke and carbon monoxide alarms to keep them working properly. The advisory added that alarms older than 10 years need replacing and the Operation Save-A-Life program offers free installations—steps meant to reduce the risk of fatal home fires.  AN17

SPORTS NEWS

  • Matthew Stafford threw for 281 yards and two touchdown passes to Davante Adams in the Rams’ 34-10 win over the struggling Saints on Sunday (while Puka Nacua returned from an injury with seven catches for 95 yards) (and Kyren Williams rushed for 114 yards with a key score).  WDSU
  • Mandeville High alum Blake Butera was named manager of the Washington Nationals, making him the youngest MLB skipper since 1972 and the eighth manager in the team's history. He was hired by Nationals president Paul Toboni—his first major move—with a long minor league coaching career that included two Carolina League Manager of the Year awards.  The Times-Picayune
  • The New Orleans Saints dropped their fourth game when the Rams beat them 34—10, leaving the team at 1—8 this season. In his debut start, quarterback Tyler Shough threw one touchdown pass and one interception—Rams quarterback Matt Stafford tossed four touchdown passes, and the Saints will face the Carolina Panthers next Sunday in Charlotte.  FOX 8
