ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Early Saturday morning a fire burned at Lewis Stables in Slidell — nine horses died and owners grieved for their beloved animals while investigators continue to search for the cause. WGNO
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Krewe of Eve announced Melody Menard as Queen Eve XL and Cary Menard as King Adam XL on October 22 at the Fleur de Lis Center in Mandeville; the new queen will lead during a ruby anniversary year that marks 40 years of parades by nearly 800 riders. The royal court will reconvene on January 31 at the Castine Center & the parade will follow on February 6 at 7 p.m. The Times-Picayune
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ State Climatologist Jay Grymes said Louisiana will remain safe for the rest of hurricane season because the tropical threat is over; he noted that November 1 is the latest date any storm has reached the Gulf—no tropical storm has made landfall this year. Louisiana Radio Network
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ A judge in Cameron Parish ruled on October 10 that Louisiana energy regulators must weigh coastal impacts on low-income residents and local fishers before issuing a permit for the proposed LNG terminal. Construction for Commonwealth LNG halted as state officials said they will appeal the ruling. The Times-Picayune
- ➤ Louisiana Treasury added $8.76 million to the unclaimed property program for 27,171 taxpayers. Residents can check their eligibility online or by calling 888-925-4127 — officials say the funds belong to Louisiana taxpayers. WGNO
