  • Local artists Addison Rae, Dez Duron and blues guitarist Kenny Wayne Shepherd have been nominated for the Grammy Awards while music teacher Alyson Humphery-Smith has been named a quarterfinalist for the Grammy Music Educator Award— the ceremony will take place on February 1 in Los Angeles. The nominations highlight Louisiana talent competing in various musical genres in the upcoming show.  WGNO

EDUCATION NEWS

  • State officials and the OPSB are seeking to end federal oversight of special education—local parents say the move is too soon. Details on the proposal's timeline and the impact on local special education programs are expected soon.  FOX 8

  • St. Tammany Parish Council approved a zoning change that lets a developer build 73 single-family homes in a gated subdivision near Folsom—local residents voiced concerns over traffic, flooding, and changing neighborhood character. Council members argued that the new homes offer a better alternative to the potential construction of 180 apartments on the site.  The Times-Picayune
