- ➤ A hidden provision banning hemp products was added to the bill that ended the government shutdown and has forced local businesses to adjust, as Crescent Canna CEO Joe Gerrity said it was slipped in on purpose. The ban will take effect one year from today — Congressman Troy Carter said it shows the need for regulated adult cannabis use to protect consumers and boost economic opportunities. WWL-TV
- ➤ I-12 construction near Covington ended and all lanes reopened today—officials plan more improvements to ease traffic. The project removed delays and will help drivers travel more safely. FOX 8
- ➤ For three months, Tangi Food Pantry in Tangipahoa Parish has had 30–40% less food because many people lost jobs after the Smitty’s Supply explosion and a government shutdown stopped SNAP benefits—volunteers say about 50 extra people come each day. They warn the shortage may become critical in 4 to 6 months and hope reopening government support will bring a return to normal by Christmas—executive director Janet Bornkessel said. WGNO
