EDUCATION NEWS

  • Courtney Christian School is hosting an open house for prospective families on Tuesday, November 18 at 6:30 p.m.—the event will share details about its mission, values, and Christ-centered education for grades Pre-K3 through 12th. The online waiting list for the 2026–2027 school year is now open.  AN17
  • Southeastern Louisiana University student Aidan Hidalgo from Luling was named the 2025 John J. Hanigan Scholarship recipient after earning a 4.0 GPA and leading student government and Greek life. He will attend the NCHC Conference—where his leadership was recognized—to represent his school.  AN17

HEALTH NEWS

  • Pennington Biomedical’s Greaux Healthy initiative will tour the Northshore region from November 17 to November 22 to battle rising childhood obesity by working with local education, healthcare, and government leaders. The program includes a Healthy Moves bus visit to Amite Library on November 20 — a key event that provides research-based tools and support for families.  AN17
  • Middendorf's is hosting a holiday blood drive from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. this Thursday, Nov. 20, at their Manchac and Slidell locations — donors will receive a free thin-fried catfish dinner and blood donor T-shirt.  AN17
  • Water Works District #2 issued a boil water advisory for parts of St. Tammany Parish after a 2-inch water main break disrupted the water supply (Wilkinson Street from LA Highway 36 to Bullard Street and Garland Street from 20047 to 19500 in Covington). Officials said residents must boil water for at least one minute for drinking, cooking, or brushing teeth (test results are expected on Monday, November 17) until the system is confirmed safe.  WWL-TV

SPORTS NEWS

  • On November 14, eight St. Tammany teams played in the first round of the LHSAA football playoffs as Slidell lost 52–39 to Hahnvile while Northlake Christian, St. Paul's, Mandeville, Parkway, Slaughter Charter, and Zachary won their games. Lakeshore earned a bye as the No.4 seed in Division II nonselect — setting up more playoff games next round.  The Times-Picayune
  • Willie Green was fired as the Pelicans head coach after five seasons with a 150-189 record, and interim coach James Borrego was named to lead the team following a series of heavy losses. The Pelicans play Golden State today at the Smoothie King Center.  WWL-TV
