- ➤ The Northshore Humane Society in Covington will host its Barks-giving foster program so pets can spend Thanksgiving with families. Interested households can pick up a pet at 20384 Harrison Ave from Nov 24 through Nov 26 and return it on Dec 1 unless they choose to adopt it permanently. The Times-Picayune
- ➤ Louisiana leaders, including Detroit Brooks who will receive the Danny Barker Award on Dec. 6 and Calvin Mackie who is set to receive the Ralph Coats Roe Medal today, were honored in ceremonies for achievements in music, museum leadership, community service and culinary innovation—while honorees such as Jim Cook, Heather Hodges and Arvinder Vilkhu, along with a Louisiana Blue Foundation gala, recognized contributions to youth initiatives. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ University Medical Center’s burn unit has been named as a top center for its new treatments like spray on skin and enzyme methods that help burn patients heal faster in southeast Louisiana. The unit uses artificial intelligence to choose treatments and works with the Department of Defense to train medics and help law enforcement investigate arson cases—making it a vital resource in the region. - ➤ Northshore sophomore Grace Keene won the Division I state cross country title at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches by running 17 minutes, 21.7 seconds—the third-fastest time ever recorded. She stuck to her planned dinner of steak, bow-tie pasta and treats to stay focused, and her coach called her one of the most self-motivated runners. The Times-Picayune
