COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ On November 7, the Northshore Food Bank held its 23rd annual Pallets With Purpose gala in Covington—an event that raised the highest amount ever, $111,000—to help food programs in St. Tammany Parish. The funds will help pay for nine nutrition programs and make up for a 53% drop in USDA food supplies. The Times-Picayune
- ➤ Retired principal Tassie Wahl uses her skills to run a drive that helps 300 families get Thanksgiving boxes—each box gives a meal to those in need—by working with 10 schools and volunteers. As donations are collected this week, the boxes will be packed and given out on Nov 24—supporting both families and seniors with a warm holiday meal. The Times-Picayune
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Sixty-two years after its founding, the Slidell Art League will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award—presented by the St. Tammany Commission on Cultural Affairs at the 19th President’s Arts Awards. The invitation-only event will be held tomorrow at River Mill Center in Covington and honors the group’s role in bringing art to our community. The Times-Picayune
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ NTCC participated in the Louisiana Board of Regents’ Untapped Talent Summit where leaders visited Rayburn Correctional Center and heard from students in Automotive, Welding, Building Technology and General Education courses. The college, which has offered correctional education since 1983, will continue to help incarcerated learners gain skills and prepare for work in Louisiana. AN17
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The St Tammany Parish Council voted to cut $600,000 from Safe Haven, a mental health facility near Mandeville, as part of efforts to narrow a $20–30 million budget gap. Some council members have raised concerns about how the funding cut may affect needed mental health services while additional budget cuts and a hiring freeze are planned. FOX 8
- ➤ Louisiana will get $1.35 billion in federal funding for its GUMBO 2.0 plan once the final proposal is approved—this money will connect 130,000 areas with no high-speed internet, work with 14 internet companies, and is expected to create 8—10,000 jobs. Gov. Jeff Landry called the investment a key step toward better tech for the state. WGNO

- ➤ The Saints will use the rest of the season to assess their players and build a winning culture instead of planning to tank for a better draft pick. Sideline reporter Jeff Nowak said the team must beat weak teams on its easier schedule and use the bye week to fix problems & prepare for next season. WWL-TV
