- ➤ Local food banks are asking for donations and help as they prepare for Thanksgiving because a loss of USDA support means fewer meals for those in need. Second Harvest Food Bank chief John Sillars said over 436,000 people in our area face hunger and about 5 million meals are missing—cash donations will let the banks buy food at low prices to feed more families. - ➤ Louisiana Pet Overpopulation Advisory Council now offers Animal Friendly license plates that cost about $50 extra to fund spay and neuter programs at 26 vet clinics statewide. Jeff Dorson said the $24,000 raised from the license plate sales will help fight pet overpopulation—ensuring the funds go directly to the needed programs. Louisiana Radio Network
