COMMUNITY NEWS

  • AAA reported 81.8 million Americans will travel from today to Monday, Dec.1 — 1.6 million more than last Thanksgiving. The Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport and TSA urged travelers to plan parking and follow security rules — while drivers in our region enjoy lower gas prices at local stations.  WDSU

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Officials said carbon monoxide filled a Slidell home when a generator was placed too close, causing one death and sending another to the hospital — a fan pulled the exhaust indoors — prompting a warning to keep generators at least 20 feet away from the house.  WWL-TV
  • The U.S. Coast Guard is searching Lake Pontchartrain for a small plane that vanished earlier—officials say the search remains active.  FOX 8

CRIME NEWS

  • A Mandeville teen reported missing last week was found safe in the Covington area on Monday afternoon—his father said Landon Rahaim was dropped off at school on November 18 and later noted missing at pickup time.  WDSU

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Although wholesale turkey prices have increased, the American Farm Bureau Federation says many stores are bundling turkey with other items to lower the overall Thanksgiving meal cost for ten—cutting expenses by about 5%. Louisiana Agriculture Commissioner Dr. Mike Strain noted that consumers will find only smaller turkeys this year, with the largest weighing around 17.5 pounds.  WWL-TV

  • Louisiana State Police warned local motorists to prioritize safety as Thanksgiving travel nears. They advised drivers who plan to drink to use a designated driver—ensuring all passengers buckle up on every trip.  AN17

HEALTH NEWS

  • Residents in Slidell were urged by local doctors to get flu shots as cases soared+ the doctors warned that antibiotics are ineffective against viral infections during a busy holiday season.  FOX 8

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Pelicans ended a nine-game losing streak with a 143-130 win over the Bulls on Monday at the Smoothie King Center—interim coach James Borrego celebrated his first win and the team will host the Grizzlies at 7 p.m. Wednesday.  FOX 8
  • The Saints are expected to bring in former Pro Bowl kicker Justin Tucker for his first NFL workout since his 10-game suspension—he violated the NFL’s personal conduct policy—and the team is searching for a reliable kicker after Blake Groupe struggled in Sunday's NFC South loss to the Falcons.  FOX 8
