COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Anticipating a potential government shutdown, Our Daily Bread director John Hair called on the local community for food donations and volunteers, and groups like the Rotary Club and North Cypress Fitness responded by donating thousands of pounds of supplies to help meet the soaring demand at the food bank. The food bank will distribute 1,000 Thanksgiving turkey dinners from 9-11 a.m. on Thanksgiving morning—ensuring support continues as needs remain high.  AN17

  • The St. Tammany Chamber of Commerce held its 23rd Business Appreciation Luncheon at Benedict's in Mandeville and honored 12 local businesses in nine categories—recognizing restaurant excellence, family-owned firms, young businesses, and more. Chamber President Lacey Osborne said the awards show how local businesses help make St. Tammany a great place to live, work, and play.  The Times-Picayune
  • Jim Bernhard built two major companies that changed Louisiana's business scene—he grew The Shaw Group into an industrial leader before selling it and later founded Bernhard Capital Partners, which manages billions and hires thousands in the state. Local leaders recalled his relentless drive and strategic vision that pushed regional growth throughout his nearly five-decade career.  The Times-Picayune

SPORTS NEWS

  • Lakeshore won 68—51 over Fontainebleau in the Thanksgiving Tournament on Nov. 24, with senior Cole Janssen earning a double-double of 30 points and 15 rebounds while teammate Jeremiah Lewis scored 12 points. The team improved in the second half after a slow start from both sides.  The Times-Picayune
  • Legendary Saints quarterback Drew Brees and offensive lineman Jahri Evans were named semifinalists for the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2026—an honor that shows their key roles in the team's past Super Bowl win. Brees leads a group of five first-year eligible players whose achievement highlights the team's proud history.  FOX 8
  • Slidell guard Ja’niyah Ducre’s strong defense helped her girls basketball team win 52-26 over Mandeville on Nov. 25 — her play forced turnovers that created easy scoring chances. The Tigers built a 19-4 lead in the first quarter — setting the tone for their tournament success.  The Times-Picayune
