COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Pere Noel will visit the Bayou Lacombe Center for Cajun Christmas on Dec. 13 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.—the free event will let families have photos with Santa, enjoy snacks, and create recycled crafts. The event will feature Cajun Santa in a vintage dark red outfit, nature trails along Bayou Lacombe, and alligator sausage for sale—providing a nostalgic holiday experience for all.  The Times-Picayune
  • St. Tammany Parish will host a full schedule of holiday events starting Dec. 5, including a drive-through light display, parades, tree lightings, and concerts at locations like Koop Drive and Heritage Park — events offer free, family-friendly fun. Additional regional activities in towns like Pearl River and Covington give residents more ways to celebrate the season.  The Times-Picayune
  • A community meal—Community Unity Holiday Dinner—is scheduled for Dec. 13 at Possum Hollow Park in Slidell. Pastor Terry Perryman, who has organized the event for three years, said the free dinner will offer a meal including fried turkey and ham and will also accept donations of money and clothing.  The Times-Picayune
  • Volunteer Ron Davis, nicknamed the Turkey Man, is spearheading Aldersgate United Methodist Church's effort to serve 1,400 Thanksgiving meals in Slidell. He led a two-shift process that smoked 50 turkeys at a time starting Tuesday — his team then delivered the meals to those in need today.  The Times-Picayune

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Kathleen Mitchell, 65, of Railroad Avenue in Slidell died over the weekend from carbon monoxide poisoning when a generator was placed too near her home—her adult son was also sickened and is expected to recover.  WDSU

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Northshore Gospel Choir will perform at Dew Drop Jazz Hall on Dec.6 in a two-part show featuring gospel favorites and holiday tunes—singer Valerie Francis will lead the second set. Local members from African American churches will join the performance and surprise guests may appear.  The Times-Picayune
  • On Nov. 14, the Krewe of Antheia celebrated Hollywood’s Golden Age at Harbor Center with 250 guests greeted by red‑jacketed ushers and paparazzi—honoring its royalty and officials with themed decor and festive touches. The krewe will parade along Slidell's traditional route on Feb. 1 at 1 p.m.  The Times-Picayune

HEALTH NEWS

  • Dr. Julio Figueroa from LSU Health New Orleans said Louisiana has the highest flu levels as the holidays near—he advises anyone with symptoms to stay home and get a flu shot, which will protect them in December and beyond.  Louisiana Radio Network

SPORTS NEWS

  • Jalen Lucas led the Slidell Tigers to a 65—59 win over Covington on November 25 at the Lakeshore Thanksgiving Tournament, scoring 17 points as the team controlled the boards and slowed the game in the final quarter. Coach Krisner Green said the win showed the team's growing maturity after starting the season 0–2.  The Times-Picayune
