COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Manning Family Children’s has rescheduled its 4th annual holiday parade to Sunday, Dec. 7 at 12:30 p.m. The parade will follow the same route starting at Esplanade and North Peters, passing Jackson Square and Oscar Dunn Park before circling back downtown.  WWL-TV
  • LASPCA is offering temporary homes for animals in need through its Home for the Holidays and Foster Program. Community members can volunteer, donate or foster to help care for pets during the season.  WWL-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Louisiana officials confirmed discussions with a Dallas company to pipe Toledo Bend Reservoir water to Texas are dead for now after opposition from local lawmakers and parishes. They said future water sales may be reconsidered, though state lawmaker (Schamerhorn) plans to file a bill next spring to block out-of-state deals.  The Times-Picayune

HEALTH NEWS

  • State health officials plan to enforce new safety rules that require restaurants to serve oysters on their original shells to reduce deadly bacteria risks. Lawmakers are working with the Health Department to refine a crawfish bisque exemption for dining establishments statewide.  The Times-Picayune
  • With the Christmas season upon us, Ochsner Health's Dr. Madeleine Dehner advises local residents to stay hydrated, eat healthy foods, and avoid close contact with anyone showing flu symptoms (Louisiana reports the highest flu rate nationwide) to help prevent the illness from worsening.  Louisiana Radio Network

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • For Christmas dinner later this month, Louisiana Agriculture Commissioner Mike Strain said recent rains have ended drought conditions and will bring an early crawfish season for locals. Shoppers may face high prices but can also choose locally cultivated shrimp for a festive meal.  WWL-TV

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Dec. 4, Northlake Christian upset Mandeville 60-49 in its annual tournament as the team rallied in the fourth quarter with key plays from Will Blessey and Nicolas Pearson. The win capped a hard-fought effort by a team that built on an early four-point lead.  The Times-Picayune
