- ➤ A video titled Faces of Katrina revisits local heroes who helped during Hurricane Katrina, featuring their stories on the 20th anniversary of the storm — a reflective look back as 2025 closes out. WDSU
- ➤ STARC held its annual Christmas show on Monday at Slidell Little Theatre, where about 100 clients enjoyed photos with Santa + live acts that brought joy and nostalgia to the community. Volunteers and cast members led the cherished tradition. The Times-Picayune
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Paul Hollis, a Mandeville resident and former lawmaker, was confirmed by the Senate as the 41st U.S. Mint director; he will oversee coin production at multiple sites and plan special coins for America's 250th birthday while being sworn in next month (possibly during Washington's Mardi Gras). - ➤ Local analyst Arthur Sterbcow reported that lower insurance hikes in 2025 eased sticker shock even as a sharp drop in first-time home buyers tempered local home sales — a trend he says may reverse with falling interest rates in 2026. WWL-TV
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Hannan sophomore Jay Dantzler led the Hawks to a 65-39 win over Slidell (Tuesday, Dec. 30 at the Pray SONIC Hoops Classic) after a loss the previous day. He had 18 points, seven rebounds and four assists, earning him a spot on the All-Tournament team. The Times-Picayune
