City leaders in Slidell are pushing to repair the Highway 11 Bridge after several fatal accidents — the family of a man killed last November is calling for action as the city awaits a Congressional funding decision in July that may speed up repairs.

St. Tammany Library announced that its limited edition 75th anniversary card—featuring art by longtime patron Elizabeth Marcks and inspired by Louisiana culture—will be available this summer while supplies last.

The library is also hosting its Food for Fines program during National Library Week, waiving $1 per nonperishable food or pet item donated to support local banks.

Fewer Louisiana students received TOPS scholarships in 2024 as recipient numbers hit a 10-year low and eligible students increasingly turned down the awards—state lawmakers will introduce bills this month to raise award amounts and expand eligibility.

The proposed changes will help high-performing students stay in Louisiana as rising college costs continue to challenge affordability.

Gov. Jeff Landry paused work on the Mid-Barataria Sediment Diversion project for 90 days because rising costs forced most activity to stop after work began in August 2023 near Ironton.

State officials will soon propose a smaller diversion project and push ahead with a new land bridge plan—steps to save money and slow coastal erosion—while moving equipment off the site.

Hannan’s Drew Timmons was named the Allstate Sugar Bowl Athlete of the Month for March after he helped his team secure a state title by averaging 18.0 points in four playoff games—he was also named Louisiana’s Gatorade Basketball Player of the Year.
