- ➤ Dr. Robert Tassin from Slidell—64—pleaded guilty today for ordering unnecessary CGx tests that led to over $2 million in false Medicare claims—his sentencing is set for August 28. AN17
- ➤ Escaped inmate Antoine Massey is accused of beating and strangling a woman in Slidell last November after she reported him for abuse — police said he drove her between family homes and restaurants while he continued his attack until she escaped and authorities began searching for him. FOX 8
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ After a stretch of drier days, southeast Louisiana and the New Orleans metro will face heavy rain from a slow-moving system today through Friday, dropping one to two inches of rain and raising flash flooding concerns—LSU Health Climatologist Barry Keim warns that the strong showers may also produce hail and isolated tornadoes. FINANCE NEWS
- ➤ Nearly 143,000 checks totaling more than $34 million will be mailed this week to Louisiana residents; one in six is eligible for a share of the state's $1.2 billion in unclaimed assets. Jefferson Parish will receive 13,500 checks worth over $3.3 million while Orleans Parish will mail 13,000 checks with payouts exceeding $3.4 million. The Times-Picayune
